Southampton Airport (SOU) Information: Photo of the historical BargateRenowned for its role in the development of the legendary Spitfire fighter plane, Southampton Airport (SOU) has undergone major redevelopment and is now a very user-friendly air transportation gateway for England's south coast region. This thoroughly modern airport is located on the north-easterly outskirts of Southampton, next to Basset, Eastleigh and Swaythling.

Southampton Airport is at its busiest during the warmer summer months, when it serves many arriving tourists, who often travel on to the city centre, Winchester, Portsmouth and nearby seaside resorts, such as Bournemouth and the Isle of Wight. In total, nearly two million passengers currently use Southampton Airport every single year, flying to over 45 destinations around the UK, Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Spain.

A wide range of ground transportation options are on offer at Southampton Airport, including the nearest train-airport connection in Europe. Visitors arriving at the airport can also opt between using local Unilink and First Group buses, commercial shuttles, taxis and rental cars. All the main car rental agencies have booths at Southampton Airport and fleets on standby, with the M3 and M27 motorways close by.

Business facilities at Southampton Airport are limited, with only the VIP lounges of Flybe and British Airways supplying equipment for their club passengers. For conferences, the Best Western Botleigh Grange Hotel is the nearest venue, offering a range of rooms, equipment and catering to suit most meeting needs. Several modern business parks are sited close to the airport. Hotels in Southampton city centre are within easy reach, with clusters based around Castle Way, Queens Park, Mayflower Park, the Town Quay, the High Street and West Quay Road.

About Southampton Tourism

A historic naval port on the southern coast of England, Southampton is famed for its maritime connections to the sea. The waterfront district is full of nautical and trading heritage, and to this day luxury liners make Southampton one of their ports of call.

Located in the county of Hampshire and also close to the New Forest, Southampton Airport (SOU) is literally minutes from the city centre, where plenty of quaint medieval buildings and even older sites of Roman and Saxon origin remain, amidst glitzy shopping centres and modern developments. Southampton is also a great base from which to explore other famous locations in the England south coast region, such as Portsmouth, Southsea, Bournemouth, Poole, the Isle of Wight and other seaside resorts.
